Are you the problem?

As unpopular messages go, this might be the grand slam of unpopular messages.

But, if you really want to go further, faster and take your effectiveness to a new level, it’s an important one. Just stick with me for a few more seconds.

When there is a project or relationship that just isn’t working, the most effective among us are willing to ask themselves, “am I the problem?”

It is the WILLINGNESS to ask this question, not the answer itself, that is the game changer because most people won’t even consider that they could be a part of the problem.

The WILLINGNESS to consider that you could be contributing to the issues at hand is a sign that you are open to uncomfortable possibilities, that you are willing to explore the impact of your participation and not just place blame on others.

You may not be the problem. You probably aren’t. But an unwillingness to explore that possibility will hold you back.
