Your friends, family, and even the people you lead are the supporting cast in YOUR story.

But don’t forget that you are a part of the supporting cast in each of THEIR stories.

This matters because we are incredibly prone to focus too much on the US of it all. 

I like to say that I’m selfish because I’m the only one that never leaves. No matter where I go, there I am.

Being inescapably present with yourself might lead you to think that YOUR story is the most important. That the things you care about ACTUALLY ARE the most important things.

But everyone around you thinks the same thing.

So the next time you are confounded by the behavior of someone you lead…or are having difficulty achieving clarity…it might be because you are treating them like a supporting cast member when they see themselves as the main character.

TRY THIS: Take a few minutes this week to put yourselves in the shoes of the people you lead. What do you think matters to them? When you exit stage left, what is happening in their story? The more curious you get about how everyone else thinks, the more opportunities you will have to discover what they really care about and how to connect with them more effectively.
