What else don’t you know?

I recently came across a video in which a man is expressing wholesale amazement to his wife that the trackpad on his laptop allows him to SCROLL up and down if uses two fingers.

He can’t believe that, per his wife, it’s a feature that has existed on every laptop he’s ever owned.

The video wraps with him, still in absolute disbelief, saying, “what else don’t I know?!”

What a great question, but one so many of us are wary of asking.

“What else don’t I know?” invites the possibility that we aren’t as smart as we think we are, or invites us toward incompetence as we realize there is much more to learn, both of which are uncomfortable.

But it also invites us into the possibility that the obstacles and opportunities we are facing might actually be solvable.

It offers hope that solutions may exist, even if we don’t have access to them just yet.

This beginner’s mindset, this posture of curiosity, can drive us to leave the false safety of “everything we already know” and explore new possibilities.

Never stop learning. Never stop questioning. Never stop asking for (and offering) help. Never take yourself too seriously.
